CHAPTER TEN
I arrived in sunny Florida at 3:00 in the afternoon. Omelio and Renea were packed and ready to leave the city and start a new life. Just as I was planning to do. I met them at a nice five-star hotel with their money in hand. Teara was with me. These days, she wasn’t letting me travel anywhere alone. Also waiting outside was two of the guys from my muscle team. They came along just in case Omelio tried any funny business. I didn’t think that he would, but just as Teara did, they insisted on coming along.
I knocked on the door of their hotel room, and Renea quickly answered.
“Come on in,” she invited us in.
“Hey, Renea. Hi, Omelio.” I spoke.
They both spoke back with smiles. I put two luggage’s full of money on their bed.
“As promised five million dollars for the capture of Caesar, whether dead or alive. Plus and additionally one million from me. Half of it being Renea’s.”
I counted out five hundred thousand dollars, and I gave it to Renea. It was well over what I promised to pay, but it was nothing. Without their cooperation, we would have never gotten the Santana Brothers so easily. They counted the money and was satisfied. We were back out of there in fifteen minutes tops. We checked into a hotel opposite sides of town as theirs, and that’s where we spent the night. I lied and told Swanns that I was going back home. I didn’t want to hurt his feelings by turning him down if he asked me to stay with him. Sure, I told him that I couldn’t be with him anymore because I couldn’t live this life forever, but that didn’t stop him from trying. He thought I was just talking, and I had to make him believe that we were really done. From now on out, it would be business only between us.
I stretched out on the bed in our room, and it seemed like as soon as my head touched the bed I was sleep. I didn’t even get into clothes that were more comfortable. We’d set our alarms for four hours away to get up and head back home, but after two hours of sleep, everybody started waking up on their own so we checked out. I for one was glad that I wouldn’t be making this almost twelve-hour drive again for a very long time. Since me and Swanns were back on an all business relationship, all pickups and drop offs would be conducted by our workers.
We made it back to Mississippi in good timing. It was 5:00 in the morning. The streets were dark and quiet. Most people were still at home in their beds sleep. Everyone except the black truck that followed close behind me. Looking in my rear view that truck looked very familiar.
“I know that truck. That’s the same truck that got behind me that time and I pulled over then Caesar and Marcio got out and beat me up,” I said to Teara.
